Jamie Oliver is a phenomenon in the world of food. He is one of the world’s best loved television personalities and one of Britain’s most famous exports. Jamie Oliver has been drawn to the kitchen since he was a child earning pocket money by helping out in his father’s pub-restaurant. After graduating from catering college and working at one of London’s coolest restaurants, The River Cafe, Jamie was spotted by a TV producer and The Naked Chef was born. Over the past decade Jamie’s brand has grown and as well as developing new TV shows, books, product ranges and restaurants, he is also the founder of The Jamie Oliver Foundation, a charity that provides training for disadvantaged young people to set them up for a career in the catering industry.
Jamie’s Food Revolution USA Jamie has been campaigning to improve the eating habits of the British population for almost ten years now, and over the course of Autumn/Winter 2009 he set out to change the way Americans think about food too. Based in Huntingdon, West Virginia, Jamie set up his Food Revolution campaign, which is all about getting better food for children, both in school and at home. Needled by local naysayers, challenged by ingrained unhealthy habits and government bureaucracy and welcomed by some of the most surprising youngsters, families and local leaders, in his accompanying TV show to be aired from March 26th, Jamie shows how, in just a few short months, he tried to transform Huntington as a template for the entire country. The show is expected to attract a great deal of media attention. It will also hopefully create the sort of reaction from the government and US citizens that was experienced in the UK at the height of the School Dinners campaign.
